About the Author:

Chuck Cascio was born in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in the Washington, DC, area. An award-winning journalist with hundreds of published articles, he has written three nonfiction books in addition to “The Fire Escape Series,” which consists of the episodic stories in The Fire Escape Stories, Volumes I&II, and The Fire Escape Belongs in Brooklyn, a novel that was selected as one of five finalists for the National Indie Excellence Award in the summer of 2018.

Chuck was a teacher of English and Journalism at South Lakes High School in Reston from the day it opened in 1978 until 1996. He won awards for his approach to teaching, and his student newspaper staff won extensive recognition for reporting and production of The Sentinel newspaper. Prior to that, Chuck had the same results as teacher at Marshall High School in Falls Church, where he worked as adviser to the student newspaper, The Rank & File. Chuck was also an adjunct professor for many years at American University and George Mason University and then went on to serve in leadership positions at the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and the Educational Testing Service. 

Chuck, who holds a BS in economics and business from Wagner College and a MA in communications from American University resides in Reston, VA, with his wife, Faye, an award-winning science educator.
