September 7 - September 30

Herndon, VA – In this unique exhibit, Infinite House, artist Sarah Irvin is thinking about the social/political/emotional definitions of a household and how an individual shapes and is shaped by these definitions. Join us September 7 to September 30, 2017 for this unique exhibit.  Meet the artist at the exhibit reception on Saturday, September 9th from 7-9pm. 

The artist has a film that features slowly moving shadows of her daughter's dollhouse cast by a flashlight. Then, throughout the gallery, she will have smaller sculptural pieces that will be recreations of different aspects of architecture or furniture of the house, only very simplified, abstracted, or distorted.  By simplifying the form of the dollhouse, but expanding its scale she aims to collapse some of our definitions of public/private and individual/collective. 

Sarah Irvin received a BFA from the University of Georgia (2008) and an MFA from George Mason University (2016). Her work has been featured in international exhibits and conferences on feminist theory and practice. She is included in the collections of the Try-Me Urban Restoration Project and the Federal Reserve Bank. She is the Director of CURRENT Art Fair in Richmond, Virginia and is represented by Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in New York and Page Bond Galley in Richmond, Va.
