Sound-Light-Stage Technician Interns

Unpaid internship opportunities currently exist for students wishing to gain experience in Art History, Management and Event Production. Interns report to the Executive Director while providing support to various divisions as needed.

Our mission at ArtSpace Herndon is to create an extraordinary artistic experience for performers and audiences alike. We do this by engaging technicians with the proper attitude and skills in all aspects of our performing arts operations to provide unsurpassed service levels from the stage build to the lighting of the stage to the operation of the sound system, consistently exceeding performer/audience expectations. Interns will be asked to serve 8-10 hours the day of each performance from set up to break down of stage; handling/managing light and sound equipment. ArtSpace Herndon anticipates presenting 5 major performances as well as numerous small group performances throughout the year.

Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Music with:

  • setting up mic/di packages & IEMs

  • assisting rehearsal clients with load in & sound check

  • running lights and sound

  • providing overall production assistance with live performances

  • teach/mentor volunteers

  • some heavy lifting

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in all phases of the audio visual world - audio, visual, lighting, video, scenic, etc.

  • Candidates should be comfortable attending to the design, set-up and tear down of stages and equipment

  • Applicants must be able to build, test, and run a PA system with an excellent understanding of signal flow. The ability to troubleshoot, maintain and repair audio visual equipment and accessories is preferred.

  • Proficiency on Digital Mixing Consoles, proficient in Wireless Set Ups, i.e., mics & IEMs, FOH & MON Mixing

  • Can-do attitude and positive personality with excellent communication skills

  • Familiar with the Microsoft Office Suite of products - specifically PowerPoint

  • IT/Computer skills preferred

  • Valid Driver's License, reliable transportation, and cellphone

Hands on experience as a stage/lights/sound technician working under the auspices of top professionals in the field and interacting with some of the most talented performers from around the world.
